Another Letter

I attended and filmed the March for Peace in Santa Barbara last Saturday
and I intend to do the same this week. This was aired twice on Channel
17, and I've already gotten several responses back expressing appreciation
for giving a voice to the people. This voice is not heard in the
mainstream media, nor in the polls.

I don't know if you've had time to view this 14 minutes of video: street
interviews with Mayor Marty Blum, lawyers, children, students, working
people -- I urge you to do so.

The News Press underestimated the marchers by several hundred; I saw six
blocks of State Street filled with people, many joining in as the march
gathered steam, perhaps 450-500 --then dwindling again to less than 100 as
some of us chose to walk to your offices. We were politely asked to leave
by two police officers because we were on "private property", which we did.

I don't know who they've been polling in regards to support for this war.
I have not met a single person who agrees with the President on this war.
I talk to lots of people, Republicans, Libertarians, Democrats, Greens.
Not ONE believes we should go to war against Iraq NOW.

You represent Us and We the people do NOT believe that attacking Iraq will
make the world safer.

The most intelligent speech I've heard was
from Mr.Kennedy this morning. We need the support of the world. We do
not need to waste our resources, our young people, and put more Americans
at risk at home and abroad by all this saber rattling and bullying. There
are better, safer, more long term solutions.

If the Bush crew has compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has "weapons
of mass destruction", then they must also know where they are. If so,
why not a surgical strike, not an all-out war. Haven't we got air
dominance over most of Iraq already?

If Bush and his war room really believe that Iraq is the most compelling
threat to our security, then it is Congress' duty to declare war. I have
heard no compelling evidence. What I hear from Bush's people is a
different story every week, as if the people are so stupid as to not
remember what Bush, et al. said the week before.

If one tells the truth, one does not have to remember what one says. It's
obvious they cannot remember. Conclusion: They are not telling the truth.

What happened to the war on terrorism?
Iraq did not bomb the WTC. Even if they were complicit, or knew about it,
most of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia, so why didn't we bomb them?
There are at least 50 nations with Al Qaeda cells. Will we bomb every
one of them?

I really hope you are considering joining with those Democrats in Congress
to strongly oppose this war, even the modified resolution, unless that
resolution squarely puts the facts on the table, retains Congress' power
to declare war, and makes every effort to stop this Presidents' agenda of
pre-emptive first strike and puts emphasis on creating a world-wide
coalition to stop bad behaviors by rogue states. It's bad for us, and it's
bad for the world. Perhaps this is not what Bush wants, since to others
abroad it's beginning to look like the US is a rogue state with weapons of
mass destruction, who claims the sole right to strike first.

Doesn't anyone in Congress see the absurdity of all this or are most of
you swept away by the misperception that you will be viewed as unpatriotic
in the light of 911? The most patriotic action today is to take a stand
based upon relevant information, principles and integrity, not the will
and propaganda of a corrupt administration.
